Gratwicks House, East Sussex
Gratwicks in East Sussex was a country estate comprising a main farmhouse and derelict outbuildings. With an emphasis on repairing rather than replacing, our sympathetic refurbishment of the main house included a double-storey extension to provide a master suite with his-and-hers dressing room and en suite, with bespoke joinery throughout. The main feature of the en suite was a domed ceiling with constellation light feature for bathing under the stars. Downstairs, the kitchen had a large working brick fireplace and stone floor, while the rest of the ground floor featured timber throughout.
Outside, the stable blocks were transformed from a state of disrepair into a two-tiered gym, games and TV room with centrepiece fireplace and self-contained guest accommodation with mezzanine floor, three bedrooms – one with sauna – kitchen and, of course, feature beams.
