Adelaide Crescent, Brighton

Completed:

May 2011

This property was the ‘bolt hole’ for our Gloucester House clients, Paul and Julia. Located in a Grade II mansion on the Brighton and Hove border, it is the former home of the Duchess of Marlborough – Sir Winston Churchill’s aunt. The initial intention was a relatively simple conversion of the three-bedroom and three-bathroom home, remodelling the 1920s conversion to establish the grand ballroom. But over the years major structural elements had been removed and needed reintroducing. So, once stripped back to brickwork, the project involved a total refurbishment and restoration of the stunning period details which had become badly worn or damaged over the years. Needless to say, the transformation met the usual Elston standard of specification and was undertaken with the utmost respect for the neighbours and adjoining residents.
